NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Police have arrested a man who fired about 50 shots in the parking lot of a Southern California shopping mall, forcing a lockdown of stores.
Newport Beach police spokeswoman Cathy Lowe says 42-year-old Marcos Gurrola fired shots into the air and onto the ground before he was arrested by police officers patrolling around the open-air Fashion Island mall.
Lowe says some stores voluntarily closed their doors and kept shoppers inside while police investigated.
An update added that about 50 shots were fired.
