According to NPR, Florida has now issued its 1,000,000th concealed weapons permit. Also according to the NPR story, this means that one adult in every fourteen adults over 21 now has a concealed weapons permit.
To make things even more scary, NPR reports that it is the Department of Agriculture that handles the concealed weapons permits, and that because it is not a law enforcement agency, it is unable to screen applicants against the FBI's crime data base.
When you combine the large number of concealed weapons (some of which are carried by persons who would be ineligible under the FBI's crime data base) with the Stand Your Ground Law, I think that there is a good chance that people may be literally getting away with murder in Florida.
As I am not a Florida resident, I would ask Florida residents to post examples from their community of where the concealed weapons permits have been issued to those who should not have received them or where the concealed weapons have been used inappropriately by those who have permits.
