See how easy that was?
I diverted your attention away from the obvious. And you didn't even notice. The takeover that made Michigan's right to work law possible, happened with little fanfare.
I'll explain more, beyond the orange squiggled demarcation line of truth.
The Michigan state house passed a bill undermining Union and labor rights today in what seemed like a heartbeat. If you weren't looking you might not have noticed, although many have.
We're pretty pumped up right now that Thurston Howell won't be our next president. And that's a good thing, but we need to look beyond federal office, beyond the mid terms of 2016.
The fact of the matter is, that our state legislatures have been co-opted by the likes of the Koch's, ALEC et al. We saw this first in Wisconsin, and Ohio. Indiana and now Michigan.
It's no coincidence. This has been a strategy thats been in play for well over a decade. Corporate interests buying state governments, at bargain basement prices while at the same time feeding us bromides about states rights issues, and how important they're supposed to be.
If the progressive movement is to have a chance, if labor will ever be able to make inroads back into the American middle class, then we must focus our energies in new directions;
1.) Political re-districting (end of gerrymandering)
2.) Focus on state legislature contests
3.) Economic embargos against the corporations that are driving this nonsense. (See Rush Limbaugh)
The extreme right takeover is near complete, and (with exception to the SCOTUS) they really don't require the Federal government to finish the job.
