Joking? Of course. The point is appointing John Kerry Secretary of State is asking to get Scott Brown (an additional Republican senator) back into the Senate. How stupid is that?
Stupid enough to catch the attention.

The Repubtilians are in full howl to smear Susan Rice and disqualify her for the position. The hidden agenda is to advance the case of John Kerry for the position. Is it because they love John Kerry? Not on your bippy. They want to empty a seat from Massachusetts so they can try to reseat Scott Brown before he gets cold and congeals. He is still a threat. And it would require a strong candidate to defeat him in a special election.
Kerry is a bad selection for more than one reason. He's on the downhill side of his career. (No offense intended--he is a distinguished and admirable politician. How he lost to Bush is still a bitter and imponderable question --probably Repubtilian theft in Ohio.) A Democratic up and comer should be put in that position -- someone with future presidential promise. But not a sitting Senator. No. No. No. A thousand times no. The Republitilians will defend 13 seats in 2014, the good guys (the lessor of two evils) 16 or 17. Not as bad as this last time. Five seats are needed to send Mitch into an infarction. Looking at the map it looks tough, but Democrats should be working on primary opponents for those guys in the red states -- tea party fanatics who could bring them down.
Alternatively Obama could appoint Mitch -- or some similar smarmy Republitilian Senator and empty a Republican seat in a state where a Democratic candidate would have a chance. (Just noodling. Actually a horrible idea.)
