Normally, with such a tight budget, I would have passed on the opportunity. But, with idiocy coming from the TeaThugs, I jumped at the chance. Especially since the most recent example of the war on women came from someone in my own state.
Rep. Bob Morris, R-Fort Wayne, sent a letter to Indiana House Republicans on Saturday explaining why he was the only member in the chamber not to sign onto a resolution last week celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts.
The thing is, I was a Girl Scout. In Fort Wayne, which is my hometown. Troop #569, Limberlost Council. I remember selling cookies to family, friends, and neighbors. A lot of the values I hold today, were reinforced by the things we worked on in the Troop. Things like caring for others and working cooperatively with a group.
So, evidently, Rep. Morris was feeling the heat and has made an attempt at backpedaling his radical statements with a now common non-apology:
"After reflecting on the letter I wrote on Feb. 18, 2012, to my fellow Indiana Republican representatives, I realize now that my words were emotional, reactionary and inflammatory," Morris said Thursday.
"In hindsight, I never should have written the letter," he said. "However, I still would not sign the the resolution honoring the Girl Scouts -- not because of any local troops or even the Girl Scouts of Indiana, but because of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America (Girl Scouts USA) and its policies."
Morris said it is his "sincere hope that this statement will end the publicity with regard to my letter. I look forward to moving on to more important issues of state policy." [bolding mine]
The only thing he's sorry about is that his comments blew up in his face. He's not retracting his comments or sentiments.
In light of that attitude, and in support of the Girl Scouts, I ordered two boxes of cookies this morning - which were delivered as I was writing this diary!
