New Michigan Robocall Urges Democrats To Vote For Santorum
A robocall making the rounds in Michigan the day before the state’s GOP primary purports to be paid for by the Rick Santorum campaign and urges Democrats to vote for Santorum and against Romney, according to recipients of the calls who have spoken with TPM.
. . .
“It went on and on like this and I kept listening because I kind of smelled a rat,” Ballenger said. “And finally at the very end, in a tagline it says, ‘this call was paid for by the Santorum for president committee.’”
It remains unclear whether the robocall is actually paid for or sanctioned by the Santorum campaign, as the script claims. The Santorum campaign did not immediately respond to TPM’s inquiries.
The robocall comes amid efforts by some liberal groups to encourage Democrats to get out and vote for Santorum. The liberal site “The Daily Kos” and other progressive partners are trying to drum up enthusiasm for “Operation Hilarity” - an effort to get Democrats to vote in the GOP primary and tilt the vote against Mitt Romney. Democratic officials and the Obama campaign both denied to TPM that they had any involvement in this effort.
