The recent flap on the Komen flip-flop / semi-apology over the Planned Parenthood issue brings to the fore the obnoxious role played by some Republican Women in rolling back rightfully won women's rights. Even with a limited knowledge of the history on how the right to vote was won, am inclined to believe that some of the ancestral ladies of these rethug women probably were too meek to speak out or loved to play the traditional barefooted woman in the kitchen. Perhaps this has caused the outlook that they have today else as in many 3rd world countries, they have been daughters/spouses of powerful men and have felt a necessity to continue the same policies to survive in power. Ofcourse with these teapublicans, the bible and the constitution are symbols of bygone glory with passages to be selectively rehashed as & when necessary.
The rightful fury unleased on the Komen women involved in this debacle, Nancy Brinker and Karen Handel brought back memories of other Repub women despised by Kossacks. Here's a long list of stepford wives & those in positions of power who have hardly any record of speaking or working for women's rights but have instead fostered a climate of hatred and animosity towards gays, people of color, the poor, sick and underprivileged women.
I started putting together a list and initially thought that 10 would be the max that I could come up with but just look at this list and there are probably many more that I do not know of. Anyways here goes:
Past wives of presidents - Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush, Laura Bush
Wives of Presidental candidates - Cindy McCain, Callista Gingrich (maybe these two can get a pass)
Ex-Senators - Elizabeth Dole
Representatives in Congress - Michele Bachmann, Mean Jean Schmidt, Virginia Foxx, Nan Hayworth?
Secretaries - Elaine Chao (labor secretary under Bush II), Condi Rice
Governors - Jan Brewer, Nikki Haley
Past secretary of state - Kathleen Harris (Florida)
From a Democratic viewpoint, I came up with these three who have not been beacons of light:
Dianne Feinstein, Elaine Tauscher (ex-congresswoman-now a lobbyist?), Blanche Lincoln
Edit 1: added Sarah Palin per public request however that I could deem to forget her is actually a cause for celebration!
