So, for those of you who read previous diaries; I have a night warehouse job. I hate this job. I am grateful to have it but sometimes the co workers are hard to work with. I have decided to post some of the exchanges here
More below the fold
So; I have this co worker. We will call her Rachel.* Rachel hated my guts when I first started. She talked constantly behind my back, to my face and generally made my life as difficult as possible. At first it was because I didn't work fast enough, but then it was because I finally decided to inform the section manager that she had five people doing her job for her. It's not because I cared about what she was doing, but I was not able to make my pack rate for the night because so many people were doing her job.
At that point she got me kicked off the aisle working with her and transferred to the aisle directly adjoining my original aisle.
So, she gets two new people on her aisle. Rachel was transferred off of inductor duty and moved to the back (traditionally reserved for new and or slower working people).
So anyway a new person gets transferred onto Rachel's aisle. We will call this person Pamela. Pamela is deaf. Pamela is a new transfer in from a different aisle. Rachel does not like Pamela. Pamela works rather slowly. Rachel has expressed to me that she misses me on her aisle.
So anyway, I notice that Pamela is working rather slowly, so I go over and try to explain to her how to work a little faster. I introduce myself and try to explain to her how to do the job a little better. Pamela says or rather signs, yeah, yeah I know this stuff. I mention Rachel's name and her face scrunches up as she explains how much of a pain in the ass Rachel is to work with and how much she talks, how annoying she is and how little she does.
I tell Pamela that she is indeed right. Rachel is indeed a pain in the ass to work with, she doesn't do her job but regardless of how she feels about Rachel, she still needs to make rate, or she will lose her job.
Anyway, she does not seem to be getting what I have to say, and I get about ten percent of what she says, so I go back to Rachel and say "Sorry I tried"
Rachel says "You went over and talked to her? What did she say about me?"
I thought for about two seconds and said:
"Pamela says you talk too much, and are annoying... A deaf person says this, you may want to take a moment to re examine how you are conducting yourself. You say Pamela is working too slowly, Pamela says you are talking too much and are annoying...
From where I am standing you are both right"
Later on, I am assigned to Rachel's aisle to help her get caught up. I need to ask Rachel a question about something. She is not on the aisle that I can see, so I go up to ask the Inductor where Rachel is. The inductor is also completely stone deaf so I mouth and ask "Wheres Rachel" He doesn't understand me. I say again a little slower "Wheres Rachel?" He still doesn't understand. So I say and mouth slowly
"W-h-e-r-e i-s R-a-c-h-e-l?" All the while flapping my thumb and fingers together to sign someone talking.
He starts cracking up and points around the corner.
