One year ago, we watched with shame and horror as Paul Ryan introduced a budget that would end Medicare as we know it, leaving our seniors with nowhere to turn.
Yesterday, I signed a pledge to protect Medicare from any and all efforts to end or dismantle Medicare. And today, I'm launching the website ProtectMedicareNow.com and I’d like your help in sending a message loud and clear to Paul Ryan- stop the attack on Medicare.
More than 48 million Americans rely on Medicare to pay their doctor’s bills. Under Paul Ryan’s plan, seniors would pay an additional $6,300 a month for the same care! Paul Ryan’s plan would rip that stability and support right out from underneath our citizens and must be stopped! I could tell Paul Ryan that his plan is wrong for this country but with your voices with me he’ll have to listen.
Medicare is a trust that cannot and should not be broken. Medicare is not an entitlement, as the GOP likes to refer to it, but an earned benefit. Our seniors worked hard and paid into Medicare and they have earned every dime of coverage that they receive.
The text of the petition reads:
Medicare belongs to the people who worked their whole life to pay into the system. It's not the government's piggybank to balance the budget on the backs of seniors.
Medicare needs to be protected, not privatized.
I oppose any plan that includes cutting guaranteed Medicare benefits or creating health care vouchers.
I OPPOSE ALL EFFORTS TO END OR DISMANTLE MEDICARE.
I will only support and vote for persons who pledge to fight the Republican plan to end Medicare and work for real solutions that strengthen Medicare for the long term.
If we can get 10,000 signatures by March 26th, I will hand-deliver this petition, your signatures and our message to protect Medicare to Paul Ryan’s office. Help protect your fellow Americans and sign today.
Thank you for your support,
Rob Zerban
Congressional Candidate
