Preface/Update: In comments Rashaverak points to a much broader and better diary here. How is this diary not on the Rec list? Please go rec it!
There are several ways to fight this Rush Limbaugh problem. One is to go after his advertisers, and a number of diaries the past few days have covered that area pretty well, and no doubt will continue to do so.
Others are, appropriately, looking at taxpayers supporting Limbaugh broadcasts on Armed Forces Radio, and that's a worthwhile path.
But let's not overlook another very good approach to keeping this issue front and center for a good long while, and making everyone involved in enabling Rush's ugly attacks and dangerous lies.
I say we file FCC complaints en masse, and make it local, local, local. Every complaint has to be investigated and refuted. We can keep these irresponsible jerks very busy cleaning up after their star "entertainer."
Start here: http://esupport.fcc.gov/...
You get a form that asks you to define the complaint type, the broad areas that are regulated by the FCC. In our case, we are interested in "Broadcast (TV and Radio), Cable, and Satellite Issues" so select that and click Next>>
Now here's where it starts getting interesting. The way I see it there are two "Complaint Categories" that could apply in the Sandra Fluke case, namely:
Broadcast programs showing obscene, profane, and/or indecent material
OR
Unauthorized, unfair, biased, illegal broadcasts (does NOT include Obscene, Profane or Indecent material) -- which is further defined by this bullet point (among others):
"Broadcasting threatening or intimidating statements about an individual or group"
You have to pick one or the other, so just go with what you think works -- others will make the other choice, and we'll have a double whammy! The following page will give you a link to the form you can fill out, or how to file your complaint by phone, snail mail, fax or email. They, and I, recommend the online form.
Anyway, here is where the important work is done for impact in your local area -- naming the station that carries Limbaugh. If you, like me, don't listen to talk radio, then you will have to do some research (or maybe others who live in your town can provide detailed info in the comments below).
You need the station name (I'm not sure about this, do local stations have names besides their call letters?), call letters (traditionally/usually starts with "W" east of Mississippi and K west of it), frequency (number on the dial). Likely you know the name of the program and the city you're in. But you also need to put the network (Rush's network is "Premiere Radio Networks"), the exact date and time of day (be sure to use your local time!) that it aired.
Then you submit. Well, normally I don't recommend you submit, but in this case...
I say we get on it. Let's fill up their inbox by Monday morning.
I welcome general suggestions and local specifics in comments (in the latter case, it might help if you made your city the subject of your comment, to start a thread where all related info can be posted).
