There are certain people in this world who make me ashamed to be a human being, and Rush Limbaugh is one of them. I don't know what appalls me more, his obdurate insensitivity, or his willfully deliberate ignorance. His treatment of Sarah Fluke is beyond the pale, with no excuses.
How can someone who's built a media empire have the kind of trollish narrow mindedness and cruelty that can only be deliberate and cynical.
He calls a woman "slut" and "prostitute," whose only crime was that she stood up for a friend during an unofficial hearing. Ms. Fluke, one of those college students who according to Mr. Santorum is a "snob," was simply testifying about Georgetown's unwillingness to allow for her friend to receive contraceptives on her plan, resulting in a serious medical condition, which, irony of all ironies has lead to permanent damage to her reproductive system. Her friend now has a significantly less chance of having a baby than she did before. Nobody was on the pill simply because they wanted to be. And Rush Limbaugh called this friend's defender a "slut," and a "prostitute!"
And how does the Right Wing react to this obscenity?
In his so - called "apology" today from his own website Limbaugh misses the entire point of Sandra Fluke's testimony:
I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities.
No Rush, Ms. Fluke was there as a health advocate who spoke on ALL of the medical reasons for contraceptives!
On Meet The Press today, Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich responded defiantly with lies about contraception and attempts to deflect the argument. The Morning After Pill is not for abortion! It comes as no surprise to me that lies come rolling off Gingrich's lips so casually!
And what about our local media that carries the Rush Limbaugh Show?
Perhaps we can't blame WSYR 570 AM entirely for it's programming. It is owned by Clear Channels after all, but perhaps the parent company should take this fact into account:
Quicken Loan, Sleep Number Beds, Legal Zoom, Citrix Success, Heart and Body Extract, AutoZone, Quicken Loans and Select Comfort are among the advertisers who have dropped Limbaugh's show.
If Limbaugh's kind of shtick is no longer appreciated in some markets, perhaps he should be dropped in those areas.
