Really quick because I don't see anyone else diarying this.
Supposedly Al Sharpton is calling for a boycott of Sanford businesses.
Look, I along with most people here in Central Florida believe the Zimmerman dude needs to be arrested, but to call for a boycott of an area that has been so economically depressed for the last few years is the height of irresponsibility.
Sanford for it's few wealthy enclaves, is still a working class town. Alot of people there have lost their jobs and are living hand to mouth. Alot of people there are under employed and living hand to mouth.
If you boycott businesses that are already struggling, what on earth do you think will happen? More people will lose their jobs, their livlihoods, their homes. Is the arrest of one man worth sucking an already economically depressed area into the abyss?
And before any of you try to parse that that last statement is defending the shooter, think again. I'm trying to make the point that, yes justice must be done and maybe it's moving too slowly, but you cannot tell me that his arrest is worth the economic collapse of a whole area which was economically fragile to begin with.
And not only that....Those businesses have NOTHING to do with whether or not the shooter is arrested. So why punish them?
