The new moon phase began today, May 20, at 5:47pm Central time or a little over 2 hours ago.
The moon phases are an unbroken circle
The new moon manifests when there is no reflective light from the sun thereby rendering her invisible to the naked eye.
New moon energy and the energy from the darkness can give birth to new initiatives and fresh starts.
We are left with our own thoughts without distractions and in quiet solitude. We can reach deep within, find our center and lay out our plans for the next phase of our life.
The Dark of the Moon:
The dark of the Moon is the most powerful time psychically. It seems to lure us toward the deepest self, the longings of the soul, and restful listening is a great way to receive these messages. It's been compared to the dormant seed under the winter snow, or the cocoon holding the butterfly. You might feel tired, or crave quiet solitude. It's important to make space for the unfolding of the spirit at this time. Like death itself, it's preparation for the new beginning that begins with the crescent.
In a few short days, the waxing crescent will appear.
The waxing crescent is one of the most hopeful moons. Arriving just after the new moon and it's darkness, the crescent is the first visible sign of growth and energy. As the moon wanes personal energy wanes with it.
When nature has a plan and a pattern, we should follow her lead. Paddling upstream and walking into the wind are difficult: likewise, keeping personal energy levels high when the moon is waning is challenging.
With the waxing moon, though, energy starts returning. The best time to begin new projects is at the waxing moon because, while that energy is increasing gradually, it is increasing. The moon's energy will work with you instead of against you.
Just like geese migrating in a v-formation use the upwash from the lead bird to make their flight easier, we can use the moon’s energy to get closer to our goals.
Use this energy that the earth gives you ... it is a gift from the goddess.
I invite you to listen to music, flow with the cycles of the earth, and give yourself a fresh start.
Song to Inanna © 1986 Lisa Thiel
I am the daughter of the ancient mother
I am the child of the mother of the world
O Inanna, O Inanna, O Inanna
It is you who teaches us to die be reborn and rise again
die be reborn and rise again
die be reborn and rise.
Unseen but heartfelt bright blessings to all.
