This is the first line of a song from "South Pacific," one of the best Broadway plays written. The lyrics to this song has always run true to me. They represent how the worst of our thoughts are allowed to fester and garner strength.
You've got to be taught to hate and fear
It has to be drummed in your dear little ear
It's got to be carefully taught.
What Donald Trump and those like him are doing is trying to educate or reeducate American citizens. We are meant to believe that Barack Obama is not one of us. He is unAmerican. He doesn't think like the average person. He has an agenda to ruin America.
And on and on..
Unfortunately, if this is said more and more, day in and day out, month after month, this evil starts to sink in. And this is exactly what the Republicans are doing. They are hell bent on spreading their lies, making sure they start to stick in people's minds.
If they can't win an election on their merits, they will use fear and hate, making sure much of this fear and hate is spread to every state. They will try to stop those immune to hate from voting.
In short- they will say or do anything; stand or use anyone to gain the power they so desperately want. And I fear that if they get that power, they will never let it go. That is their plan.
We must stop them. It is imperative to all that Mitt Romney is not allowed to inhabit the White House.
I don't know about anyone of you out there, but the thought of a Romney presidency, made up of Bush's neo-con advisors, scare the heck out of me.
I have anxiety attacks thinking about it. So- we have to make sure that we all do what we can to reelect Barack Obama. Call, knock on doors, send emails with the truth, GOTV!
We need to help those who will be disenfranchised, stopped from voting, to make sure they have the proper ID. Drive people to the polls. Stick a lawn sign on your lawn.
Do anything. Because those who seek power today are not like any others. They mean to harm us, the average person, the elderly, the disabled, the poor. They care not for how our lives turn out.
And I believe we really are one election away from the hunger games- for real!
We must band together, put aside our doubts and disappointments- otherwise we allow evil to win. We survived eight years of Bush, but even one year of Romney will do harm.
