So I make a quick run to a local convenience store after work to make sure I have some beers to reach for while watching - no, not merely watching, but LIVING - the election results from my beloved home state tonight. I do this all the time, but tonight was different.
My usual custom is to grab a six pack of something exotic and expensive. Heck, big election nights like this don't come all that often, so why not treat myself? And you would be amazed at the selection you can find at a typical Wisconsin convenience store. Anyway, that was my plan until a certain 12 pack called out to me.
More below.
So there I was in front of the beer cooler, deciding what beer I was going to toast the victory with, or at least enjoy while hope was still alive. And then I saw it.
That familiar red and white packaging. So familiar it is almost invisible to someone of my age. Old Milwaukee. Old Milk, as I not-so-respectfully called it in my younger years. DAD BEER.
Laugh all you want - it's an old-school, blue-collar, Old Milwaukee night. Does your beer have a UNION MADE label on it? Mine does, I'm proud to say. As I sit here waiting for the first returns to begin trickling in, I dream that one of the union workers who made my beer cast what may prove to be the winning vote in a struggle so intense it boggles the minds of many who don't know the state.
Thank you union beer man or woman. Thank you very much. And cheers!
Forward!
