My Senator, Mr. Cornyn of Texas is outraged. Outraged I tell you, that President Obama hates business owners.
I just received an email asking me to share my outrage too...
President Obama believes that individual success is a gift from the government. He recently claimed, “If you've got a business -- you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen." As Texans, we know this is not true. Our state is full of entrepreneurs whose successes came from hard work and personal creativity. Below are a few examples from entrepreneurs around our state, who can claim “I built this.”
If you would like to share your entrepreneurial success story with the President and claim “I built this” please visit my website and submit a message. I will post your story on my website, send it to the White House and let President Obama know that the government is not responsible for your success, you are.
Sunbelt Machine Works - Stafford, Texas
As a child, Frank Scatlin was so poor that at times he could not afford to buy new shoes. Times were so tough that Frank had to quit school in 9th grade in order to help his mother put food on the table and a roof over their heads.
Despite such hardships, Frank persevered and went on to found Sunbelt Machine Works. Family owned and operated since 1978, the Stafford-based company makes precision-crafted components for a variety of industries. It started with only 2,100
square feet of work space and a staff so small (three employees) that Frank’s wife, Mary, occasionally had to drive the trucks, in addition to serving as bookkeeper and secretary. Now Sunbelt’s combined footprint covers almost 60,000 square feet, and it has 90 employees.
Mayo Furniture - Texarkana, Texas
Family owned and operated since 1965, Mayo is an upholstered furniture manufacturer producing a full line of fabric, leather, leather-fabric sofas, loveseats, chairs, ottomans and sleepers. The Mayo product line is manufactured in a 156,000 sq. ft. modern, well equipped plant, which includes state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment. The company employs 135 full-time employees, and their furniture is sold in 25 states coast-to-coast. Mayo owns and operates their own fleet of delivery trucks
Austin Glass & Mirror - Austin, Texas
28 years ago, John Kallus, Don Bayer and his brother Jim teamed up to form Austin Glass & Mirror. The company employs several dozen people, many of whom have been on staff since Day One. “In our business,” Don Bayer told me last year, “we have to balance our budgets, plan cash flow, and watch our spending. We have to live within our means, and I expect the government to live within their means.”
Conner Industries - Fort Worth, Texas
Established in 1981 with a staff of five, Conner Industries now employs more than 400 people in eight different states. Much like Don Bayer, CEO Grady Payne fears that misguided government policies are hampering job creation. He recently told Congress that his business could be “legislated out of existence” if President Obama’s health-care law is allowed to stand.

So I shared my story through his I Built This page. Just click the link and you can too! I'm sure he will be glad to hear from you.
Here is my reply:
Mr. Cornyn, I built a successful real estate business. But as President Obama said, I did not build roads and bridges. If not for the roads and bridges, I would not have had any real estate at all.
You know that President Obama said:
"Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business—you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen."
Why do you assume that we're smart enough to build a business, but not smart enough to understand his comments in context.
I'm sure if I wanted to, I could take a sentence that you said and have it stand alone, with a lot of phony outrage, and make you look like you meant something different than you intended.
I'm insulted that you think all of your constituents are outraged by a comment that you know is a true statement.
The question that you should have asked was:
As a business owner, give us examples of where you had to build your own bridges and roads to have success and why private bridges and roads are better than government funded roads.
My questions to you are:
Did Forge USA only have the owner's wife drive on private roads? Or did she drive on government funded roads as President Obama said?
Does Mayo Furniture's fleet of trucks only drive on private highways to the 25 states or do they drive on the US highway system that President Obama spoke of?
Quite sad that you play into falsehoods and misrepresentations to instill fear in voters.
You once said: “...misrepresent and embarrass his colleagues, I don’t think it’s a very constructive thing,” Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas).
Shame on you.
