Once, before I was born, my dad had a gun. A pearl-inlayed sixshooter that had once been owned by an ancestor who had been Someone Important back in the Old West. It had some rust, so my dad gave it to a guy he knew who was really into guns to see if he could repair it. Never saw the guy again.
Many years later, I tried to kill myself.
I didn't succeed, of course. I tried to overdose on Tylenol, but it didn't work. About a month later, I broke down and told my parents about my attempt, and I started getting treatment for my depression.
I wonder, sometimes, what would have happened if that gun was still around. I probably would have used it, and I probably would have succeeded.

So that's my story. I noticed there doesn't seem to be a gun control group here, so I decided to do something about that.
Daily Kos Gun Control starts now.
