Humorous social and political commentary
Recently, I decided to set up a place to express my own response to the endless variation of silliness, ignorance, and absurdity that comes at us from every direction. So I took it out to YouTube.
The Onomono Show
YouTube reminds me of the many poetry venues I've attended over three decades of open mike. Poetry is every man's art in that all you need is the courage to stand in front of an audience and recite your poetry. Now in three decades you can be sure that I've heard the best and the worst of the spoken word, and over time, I come to appreciate these venues where you can go for inspiration, friendship and even romance (this is where I met my husband). Poetry Venues serve the above purposes, but they also provide a safe place for the occasional marginalized individual, who shows up every week and reads his own creations emanating from his or her unstable psyche. They are harmless, tender specimens struggling for normalcy, and who have found acceptance amongst other poets, and also a safe place to express themselves.
Granted YouTube will grant you acceptance measured by how many views, subscriptions, and likes you get, as it will also snap at you with the opines of the displeased. But it is still a safe place, because everyone is safely ensconced in their own little pod.
What am I talking about? Rather than talking to myself in the style of the marginalized, I have decided to stand in front of the camera and talk to the camera. As crazy as it is, its seems a little saner.
For starters, why don't you check out my latest video? It is a short piece that pokes fun at the seemingly sensitive digestive systems of Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich and Rich Santorum.
Enjoy!
