Today, when asked for his comments about Romney's latest attacks on the President's record on Medicare via gchat, the President opened the latest topic of consideration...
He linked me to Ezra Klein's Wonkbook and highlighted a piece for me:
It does not, however, change the basket of benefits that patients have access to. And, as Ezra pointed out earlier today, the Ryan budget would keep these cuts in place.
"Romney will say anything to be prez, attacking me for savings his VP endorsed" -bo
Just the latest demonstration of how Romney would ghost ride a whip if Obama ever said it was too dangerous a behavior to engage in. Look for Joe Biden in the debates to point this out to Congressman Paul "Hey Girl" Ryan when the topic of what the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare reforms are actually discussed. Obama is right to say he strengthened Medicare, because goddamn if you take $700 billion of savings outta there, you are putting it on a path to long term stability.
And Obama will finally come to realize that he shouldn't shy away from the election being about a referendum on his reforms. Who would argue that Wall Street wasn't in need of reform? Or healthcare? Or his reforms to college tuition?
The majority of people know the system was bending them ov...you get the picture. And Obama's reforms will stand up to scrutiny under any such referendum. He should be proud.
That's why the President sighs this silliness off sometimes. Because at the end of the day people will ask whether he deserves another 4 years. And his record says he does. Period.
Being above the fray while it all happens helps, but he knows Ryan embraced the same savings. And we all should also. When it gets too shrill, just calm down and look at the hypocrisy of Romney on this fight. Unsustainable.
