According to multiple sources, the GOP has effectively delayed the convention by one day. Updates below the squiggle.
Republicans announced Saturday that they had effectively canceled the first day of its convention for safety concerns associated with an impending hurricane.
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement that "the Republican National Convention will convene on Monday August 27th and immediately recess until Tuesday afternoon, August 28th."
Oh and remember 2008 when the GOP prayed for rain?
Would it be wrong to ask people to pray? Would it be wrong if we asked people to pray for rain?
O.K., not just rain, abundant rain. Torrential rain. Urban and small stream flood advisory rain.
Would it be wrong if we prayed for rain on, say, a particular night at, say, a particular location? Ah, say the evening of August 28th, right here at Mile High Stadium here in Denver. During the prime time t.v. hour when a certain presumptive nominee is set to give a certain acceptance speech at a certain Democratic National Convention?
I’m talkin’ umbrella ain’t gonna help ya rain. Not flood people out of their houses rain, just good old swamp the intersections rain.
We’re not asking for hail the size of canned hams, or lightening bolts to set the bunting on fire. Just rain. Beautiful rain. Network cameras can’t see the podium rain. Attendees can’t walk to the indoor arena without wishing for hip waders rain.
I know you might ask why would I pray for that. Well, I’m still pro-life and I’m still in favor of marriage being only between one man and one woman. And I’d like the next president, who’ll select justices for the U. S. Supreme Court to agree.
So I’m praying for unexpected, unanticipated, unforecasted rain that starts two minutes before the speech is set to begin.

Interesting comment via NBC's First Read,
Romney will now be formally nominated as the Republican Party's presidential candidate on Tuesday instead of Monday, said Russ Schriefer, a senior strategist for the Romney campaign.
"Right now, we expect that the roll call will just take place on Tuesday," he said.
Why is this interesting? Because usually the candidate isn't voted on the first night of the convention. But the GOP has a Ron Paul problem this year, and the few Paul delegates who haven't already been
"disappeared" from the convention floor were planning on loudly placing Paul's name in the hat. So the GOP wanted the voting done before the big corporate media were broadcasting wall-to-wall. Now that the voting will be done on Tuesday, the same day the Ron Paul "tribute" film is presented, there's a Paul problem again.
Late night P.S. (11:30 PST) I am no fan of destructive weather. I just checked again, and it looked like Haiti got creamed, wiping out the tents of earthquake survivors. Cubans are being evacuated to safer areas. Even if the GOP-ers have to cancel and it keeps Pat Robertson quiet about why God keeps sending storms to LGBT party-cities, it's really not worth a whole tropical storm.
