A local community in southeast Michigan recently had their first Gay Days event to celebrate LGBT diversity.
Among the less welcome group were religious protesters who turned out to express their displeasure to the attendees, as they exercised their right to free assembly and association. Michigan Live has posted a rather hideous video seen below.
Warning: the language both on the video, and excerpted below, is quite graphic.
Excerpt 1:33: A man, Bible in hand, quotes from
Isaiah 13:16 and uses it as justification to make threats of rape and murder.
Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.
He goes on to say,
What does "ravished" mean? It means rape your ass, and I'm gonna have fun doing that shit.
Can't you just feel the Christian love? Whose ass would Jesus have fun rapin' and shit?
I really would like to know if the religious right considers this a laudable expression of the man's religious liberty? I mean, he's just expressing his Biblical-justified disapproval of gay people, right? It's all right there in the Bible. He even helpfully grounded his threats to a specific Bible verse and named it for us.
There are complaints from the local LGBT activist group, Tolerance, Equality and Awareness Movement, and the National Organization for Women that the Grand Rapids police did not address the incident with the appropriate level of seriousness. Michigan Live has more.
