Presidential elections by their nature dominate our attention, and we need to continue working as hard as we can even though our changes of re-electing President Obama seem to be improving. But, as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi warns us, in order for us to be able to move our country Forward we also need take back the House. And, I would add win as many state and local level elections as possible as well.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) says the partisan gridlock in Washington won't change if President Barack Obama gets reelected and the House and Senate retain their current party majorities.
"You'll see more of the same," Pelosi said during an appearance on CNN's "State of the Union." "It's really important for the public to know that the Republican obstruction of President Obama's jobs bills and whatever he was advancing, is their -- obstruction is their agenda."
Pressed again on whether anything would be different if the current power balance in Washington stays the same after November, she said, "No. It doesn't change."
We all need to make sure we devote a certain fraction of our Democratic energies to help down ticket races. After spending most of my last three decades in Massachusetts before just recently returning to Pennsylvania, I need to put my own registration status in order, but I'm enthusiastic about supporting the election of future Massachusetts Senate Elizabeth Warren who we just learned is now, finally leading Senator Scott Brown in the polls, even if I end up voting in Pennsylvania, which now seems likely.
But, can you imagine how embarrassing it will be if I fluff up my registration status and miss this election, because my residency status is up for grabs after writing so many posts and comments encouraging everyone else to vote, volunteer, and donate? I've been waiting to see if my former significant other of ten years and I get back together before knowing what state to vote in, and setting up a new residence. I no longer live at my old address.
So my post here suggesting you all work harder to elect more and better Democrts is probably my own way of getting myself organized. I find it easier to externalize my problems onto others, rather than holding myself accountable, at least to get started. "Cuz that's how I roll!" Hey, I wonder if this could be why I keep getting distressed by the reports that 15% of our Colorado Latino voters are not properly registered where they now live, due to higher than average mobility rates?
Let's all we make sure we get out every Democratic voters we can, and make sure we fully support our local races as well. Including me.
