I hear you think not voting will make a statement. These are the statements I will hear:
• Come on, Sandy. You have to admit that it was fun watching the Republicans obstruct and waste two years of our lives. Don’t hold it against me if I’m not ready to give up all those good laughs.
• You know personal responsibility is a drag for me. I take great pleasure in being able to blame every president for everything that is wrong in my life. Don’t ask me to care who I get to blame, or to strain my brain figuring out if he is actually responsible.
• Nothing is better than something. I’m totally committed to my ‘all or nothing’ stance. Seriously, if President Obama and the Democrats couldn’t give me exactly what I wanted, on the projects that mean most to me, a little bit of a bunch of things that other people care about just won’t cut it. Don’t expect me to vote for Democratic majorities until you can promise they will give me everything I want.
• Mitt Romney is everything I want to be – rich and heartless. How silly of you to think that I should believe there is reason to fear him.
• They have all, on both sides, done something that I’m not thrilled with and that makes them all just alike. I refuse to waste my time looking at how politicians vote in order to see how they are not alike. Do you know how many of them there are?
• I hope you win a lottery that will make up for losing social security and Medicare. You deserve that and I deserve freedom from having to worry about how you will survive if the Republicans are in control. If not, it’s been nice knowing you and I hope you will be okay with me donating something to my favorite charity in lieu of sending flowers to your funeral. I sincerely hope that, if things don’t go the way you want, dismantling Obamacare only hurts people I don't know, not you.
• I don’t know what change you were looking for but what I really wanted most was to see President Obama be the bulldozing decider instead of George Bush. Did you think integrity was going to impress me?
• I’m not totally dedicated to choice, my beliefs, civil rights, or education. What gave you that impression? I’m thinking now that it might be interesting to see how things go without those things. That certainly beats watching Democrats continue their struggle to hang on to them.
• I hate to let you down but, seriously, looking closely at what has happened since President Obama took office and recognizing that it is a hell of a lot better than what happened when Republicans were in charge is just more trouble than it’s worth.
• Food, shelter, and health care are not all they’re cracked up to be. As long as the corporations survive, that’s all that matters. Right? Get with the program, Sandy.
