Am I the only one who does?
Is it impossible to imagine that the real Republican leaders have a plan to put Mitt Romney in as president no matter what? Not the idiot candidates themselves, of course. Romney and Ryan are obviously boobs who make things worse for themselves almost every time they open their mouths.
But Karl Rove is an evil genius. With a huge bank account. And a proven ability to steal a presidential election.
Here's what Karl himself says in his Wall Street Journal column of Sept. 20, 2012:
"Romney has had a bad week, but he can recover... Presidential races can look one way now but much differently on Election Day."
Was it impossible in September 2000 to imagine that the 5 GOP Supreme Court Justices would defy the popular vote and appoint George W. Bush as president?
Have you seen Karl's recent smirking, even jolly, appearances on Fox News lately? Ask yourself, why is this man so happy?
Why is Mitt himself so supremely confident these days, when even Peggy Noonan is calling him "incompetent" and a "calamity"? Anyone else would be getting desperate. But Mitt refuses to admit that he's even slightly behind in the race. Does he know something we don't know, or aren't willing to admit?
Consider the recently released quotes from Mitt's upcoming "60 Minutes" interview:
“I've got a very effective campaign. It's doing a very good job.”
“It doesn't need a turnaround.”
"Actually, we're tied in the polls. We're all within the margin of error. We bounce around -- week to week, day to day.”
“There are some days we're up. There are some days we're down. We go forward with my message, that this is a time to reinvigorate the American economy."
Or, consider Karl Rove's comments from a Wall Street Journal column last May:
"The Republican challenger has a good shot at winning... The odds now narrowly favor a Romney win."
Yes, he'll keep Mitt's victory "narrow," to make it look as plausible as he can. But he sure doesn't seem to be as worried as he should be at this point. Stay active, and keep an eye on Karl.
