Thursday!
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
Being overweight may be good for your longevity. Obesity, of course, is still viewed as a problem, but being above the so called average weight for your height and below what's considered obese may benefit you in the long run.
Of course, no one bothers to use standardized measurements, and each study has different criteria, and they don't adjust for many important things, but overall, being on the high side of weight appears to be healthier for you.
Anecdotally, when I was thin, I was sickly, prone to infections, broken bones, and cancer. When I gained beyond my weight range and well into the overweight range, I stopped getting infections, stopped breaking bones (mostly), and haven't had a recurrence of the cancer. People can sneer and laugh at my weight all they want, make fun of me, and so on, I no longer care. I am healthier being fat than I ever was when I was thin.
Should anyone ever taunt me for my weight, I will smile inscrutably and know I shall probably outlive them, and do so enjoying tasty, tasty food.
Oh, and for those interested, today is a repeater day - 1-3-13.
