Mr. EclecticCrafter & I are refinancing a mortgage. Recently we received the following email from some lackey at the Title company
Hello Mr. EC,
My name is [Idiot] with First American Title working with [bank] on your refinance. We have been unable to contact you to verify your vesting. Are you still married to EclecticCrafter? If you aren’t, would you like her removed from title? Please reply at your convenience. Have a great day.
Really? This punk thinks he can remove a wife from the title of a jointly held property on the email say so of one of the applicants for a mortgage? I guess I should just thank my lucky stars that I'm not married to a schmuck trying to hide marital assets before leaving me. WTF?
I'm trying to figure out where to report this crap. If I lived in Mass, Sen Warren would be getting a letter.
I'm somewhat concerned that this means there are significant problems in the paperwork on the loan. I've signed enough forms that it should be very clear that it is a jointly held mortgage. If the paperwork to the Title company leaves that in question, what else is wrong?
I'm trying to imagine the same letter addressed to the wife. Call me deluded, but I don't see it. I don't think that it would occur to some title flunky to offer the "little woman" an opportunity to take her [potentially former] husband off the title.
