Today is a Special Day. It is the true Inauguration day; AND is my Birthday (and a special one at that)!
Yup, since 1937, all presidents have recognized that they should be inaugurated on my birthday...smart move!! (Well, they DID start a few years before me...)
I vaguely remember seeing something of the first Eisenhower swearing in---and nothing of the 2nd.
Since, 1961, and JFK---I have seen all of them....celebrating MY birthday with them taking the oath of office.
Rather nice of them, I'd say!
Follow me below the squigilly for more...
Look at this picture of the first Eisenhower swearing in---note the scowl on Nixon's face: A meany way back then....
Like I said, I hardly remember this on my parent's very small B/W TV. (And, certainly there were no memorable quotes from that speech----or hardly any at all from his 8 years....
in 1957, I must have been preoccupied watching Mickey Mouse or something---'cuz I have no recollection at all of this one.
In 1961, I (and most here) remember that great speech of JFK. I was in high school then, interested in the 1960 election intensely; and was happy to see JFK use MY day to be inaugurated in 1961(he of course, had no choice) Who can forget not only JFK's lines of "Ask not what you can do...", but the reading of a special poem by Robert Frost:
Here is the remarkable back story to his reading.....(I vividly remember his difficulty)
After JFK, there were more days of other Presidents using MY birthday to highlight the beginning of their term. I've forgotten most--more interested in my own celebration.
Certainly, the most exciting since JFK (IMO) was in 2009, when Barack Obama took the 1st (of 2) oath(s) on The 20th to become our first African-American President. Over 2 million came to see....
President Obama is sooo nice, that this time, he decided to let me celebrate MY day all by myself---and is having the 2nd Inauguration tomorrow!!
How sweet of him.
OK---enough of this: How about telling us all about YOUR special day? What is notable or special about YOUR birthday---other than YOU??
OTOH----perhaps it's simply one of THOSE days......
On with the Party.....
(By the way...leaving @ 9PM----gotta watch Downton Abbey)
