Thought I put an open thread up and post some snowfall totals and weather related news from the Northeast. I can't sleep, so I'm up and checking the news on the storm as it developed overnight. It looks like my initial skepticism was misplaced. The blizzard is measuring up to the hype which preceded it:
Some 650,000 have lost power in MA, RI, CT, ME, NY and NJ
Boston's Logan Airport was totally closed for several hours
Statewide ban on all nonessential driving in CT, with all roads there closed until further notice. Some places there reported getting as much as 6 inches of snow in just one hour
Worcester, MA has almost 28 inches of snow. Wind gusts at Hyannis reached almost 78 MPH
as many as 100 cars have been stranded on the Long Island Expressway
Looks like CT has taken it on the chin the most in terms of total snowfall...some places have already gotten as much as 30 plus inches!
Over 2 ft of snow in some parts of NY, I believe as much as a foot and a half in Portland, ME?
I will update this live blog with more news...but how are things where you are?
4:05 AM PT: drifts up to 4 ft reported in CT.
Major flooding occurring in Scituate, MA
City snow plow had to be left, abandoned in Providence RI due to conditions there
