This is a breaking event. A large wedge long track tornado has struck the NW side of Hattiesburg, MS this afternoon. Reports are that the University of Southern Mississippi has sustain some damage.

Forrest County Fire Coordinator Chip Brown said there is major damage in Hattiesburg and to the northeast in Petal, including on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi. He couldn't confirm injuries.

As of 5:55 PM CST- tornado was still on the ground heading NE
5:37 PM PT: I have read reports that the main damage at the University is confined to academic buildings and not the dorms.
Also- the Hattiesburg Area High School that Brett Farve helps with the football team suffered major damage to the main building and the fieldhouse.

9:28 PM PT: As of 11:00 PM CST No deaths reported so far near Hattiesburg area. Some injuries. Also, tornado struck one hour or so before sunset and thus full examination of the damage cannot be completed until morning light. Many power lines down.
Also this was believed to be single long track tornado striking 6 counties including Alabama counties.
