A worldwide campaign has been launched called, 'Unite Against Rape' that is bringing people from all walks of life, to stand in solidarity, and support rape survivors. Its purpose is also to bring more discussion and awareness to the problem of how the crime of rape, is viewed in our current society. Women and men are submitting photos and brief statements, sharing their thoughts. This is part two of an earlier story, http://www.dailykos.com/....
Well-knowns including Roseanne Barr, Margaret Cho, XOJane's Mandy Stadtmiller, Drew Reyes and Sandra Fluke have joined the movement.
Sandra Fluke, added her photo and statement today:
"I stand united against rape because, in addition to the personal responsibility of individual perpetrators, we are all collectively responsible for having allowed a rape culture to perpeptuate. To end sexual assault in this country, we- women and men- must have an honest, productive conversation about what messages our society sends men regarding sexuality, gender, power, and violence." -Sandra Fluke, social justice advocate
Karen Teegarden, President and CEO of UniteWomen.org, (the organization that launched the campaign) adds:
“If we can stop one person from being raped by this ‘Unite Against Rape’ campaign, it will have been worth our time. This campaign features rape survivors, and those who support them, making bold statements against what is often referred to as our rape culture.”
