Today's entry in the ongoing series of stories that show Conspiracy Conservatism to be completely incompatible with
basic governmental competence:
The national debate over gun control has made its way to the O'Fallon City Council.
A bill introduced Thursday would declare any federal, state or laws prohibiting guns to be in violation of the U.S. and Missouri constitutions and invalid in O'Fallon. […]
The bill's language declares unconstitutional all federal, state, local laws, orders, rules, regulations and executive orders — ”past, present, or future” — that prohibit the keeping and bearing of arms. The bill states such laws would not be “recognized” by the city, that it “may be necessary” to prevent their enforcement and that the city would have the obligation to “defend individuals” against enforcement of those laws.
Apparently this obviously unconstitutional waste of everybody's time was done upon urging from a handful of paranoid residents worried that the gubberment was coming to take their guns, which in perfect fairness has been the precise impetus behind nearly all national gun legislation for the last 20 years.
