It's morning in France, and some time between cock crow and croissant, President Hollande signed marriage equality legislation into law.
AFP - France became the 14th country to legalise same-sex marriage Saturday after President Francois Hollande signed it into law following months of bitter political debate.
Hollande acted a day after the Constitutional Council threw out a legal challenge by the right-wing opposition, which had been the last obstacle to passing the bill into law. The legislation also legalises gay adoption.
France may or may not be the largest country population wise to have legalized same-sex marriage. That's because days ago a Brazilian court effectively legalized it across the entire country, but it's maybe not quite almost official there yet. I say let the Wikipedia masters fight it out.
Vive la France! Vive la République!
At least in theory,same-sex marriage ceremonies can place after ten days now.
