The Connecticut Education Association has devoted it's front page to the latest mis-adventure of Bridgeport School Superintent (a.k.a. "I'm a Michael Jordan All-Star") Paul Vallas.
CEA Complaint Cites Violations of State Law by Bridgeport Superintendent
Bridgeport School Superintendent Paul Vallas is breaking the law by not allowing teachers, parents, and community leaders to participate in the educational process as outlined in state statutes, according to a complaint filed by the Connecticut Education Association (CEA) with the State Department of Education today.
For those who missed my last diary
"Vallas leaves a trail of destruction,, someone would think he's demonstrating negative behavior to obtain adult attention.
It's hard to choose which is worse from yesterday's latest news. The first Connecticut Post article describes how Vallas now requires all math and reading coaches to reapply their jobs, which a memo written by a principal to Vallas "describes coaches crying at their schools when they received the email informing them that their positions were subject to reapplication." Sobbing teachers are not a good thing for students to have to see.
In another byline, the Post describes his total disdain for parents where school councils ~
•were not given an opportunity to review the draft budget for the school and provide advice before it was submitted to the superintendent.
•did not participate in the hiring process of administrators.
•did not work with school administration to develop and approve a school compact.
•were not involved in developing and approving a written parent involvement policy outlining the role of parents in the school
•had no involvement in analyzing school achievement data and school needs relative to the improvement plan for the school
•did not assist the principal in making programmatic and operational changes for improving the school’s achievement
•have not been made aware of their authority, nor have they been given opportunities to exercise this authority.
The complaint goes on to cite a school board meeting at which Vallas indicated there were priorities more pressing that governance councils.
You'd think he'd wait until Friday's news dump so as to avoid scrutiny.
Update: local media is picking it up ~
