After the U.S. Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision to allow policing authorities to force arrestees to submit DNA samples and humiliating strip searches before even being charged with a crime ignited a firestorm of debate, it got us thinking. We wondered, if the nation had an opportunity to vote on constitutional issues of this magnitude, would Americans have to live their lives as they do these days.
We recognize the historic significance of the United States Supreme Court, but nobody voted for these political appointees. We don’t even know if these are the best legal minds America could produce. The nine sitting Supreme Court Justices are simply what Americans were given by another body of government, “We the People” have little respect or use for; the United States Congress. Think of it, if America could have voted, do you thing Citizens United would be corrupting the America’s political process as its allowed to these days?
Since Congress has been deemed useless and therefore rightfully held in such low regard, we’re also wondering why it has been allowed to continue not doing anything or worse yet, doing things contrary to the nation’s interest. We were wondering, if the people’s will were being represented, would the issues being discussed in the U.S. States Senate or the House of Representatives be the issues being discussed. Think of it, if Americans could have voted, would the Patriot Act and other corrosively invasive authoritarian security policies be allowed to continue eroding American civil liberties?
Considering how the average American’s quality of life has declined over the last three decades due to corrupt, incompetent and unresponsive government, we think its time to discover a new, more participatory form of national governance. We need something that’ll ensure the will of the people is recognized and represented. We think the only way that can happen is through the most direct form of democracy; Governance by Referendum.
We think, it is through national referendums, decided by the people that should prioritize Congress’s legislative agenda. It will be the people who’ll decide how long Congress will be allowed to debate an issue before legislation is passed in the interest of the nation. The people will be the only special interest considered because only the people will decide what is to be legislated. If a congressional body fails to meet the will and expectations of the people once elected, said congressional body will be repopulated with a new and more obedient public servants.
America’s current political construct has two parties with simplistic messaging, placing candidates on ballets across the nation that have been bought and paid for by special interest. When said candidates are elected, they’ve already been pre-instructed to vote this way on that or that way on this or as Washington works theses days, just make sure no vote is taken at all on anything at all.
America can not continue on its current course, as the outcome is obvious; a total collapse. Hence, our message is clear. American’s must understand and accept the fact that the United States Government as we’ve known it works no more. The onus is now on the American people to represent themselves.
