Via Greg Sargent,
The New York Times reports that many Republican senators, including Lindsey Graham, are conceding that they were wrong to obstruct presidential nominees like Richard Cordray simply because they oppose President Obama's policies:
Many Republicans admitted their efforts to hobble executive agencies by denying confirmation of their leadership was wrongheaded. “Cordray was being filibustered because we don’t like the law” that created the consumer agency, said Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina. “That’s not a reason to deny someone their appointment. We were wrong.”
And what did Graham and his fellow Republicans get for their efforts? Well, the smiles in the picture at the top of this post pretty much tell the whole story: After spending two years trying to block President Obama from appointing anyone to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau,
Republicans got nothing—except, of course, for Senator Elizabeth Warren and
CFPB Director Richard Cordray. And they're probably not too happy about that.
