NOT SNARK! (With Updates)
You can run, but you can't hide. (The CIA has many chiefs, but one Director. This fellow was not the Director.)
The former chief of the Milan CIA Office, Robert Seldon Lady, has been arrested in Panama, reports the Guardian. http://www.guardian.co.uk/...
Former CIA Milan chief held in Panama over abduction of Egyptian cleric
Robert Seldon Lady was convicted in absentia by Italian court for 2003 abduction of Hassan Mustafa Osama Nasr in Milan.
America has worked hard to bring the rule of civilized law to the eight corners of the world. Perhaps now they will return the favor to us.
The full Guardian story is quite short, so I do not have a lot of material to work with. There were trials in absentia, there were a bunch of convictions, and now justice is catching up with the miscreants. Readers may recall a variety of retired foreign tyrants who dared not leaved their countries for fear of arrest; now Americans are joining their ranks.
Lady faces an 8 year prison sentence. Nearly two dozen of his confederates, also convicted in absentia, face five year sentences. There was also a civil finding of 1.5 million Euros.
Hassan Mustafa Osama Nasr was kidnapped off a city street in Milan, Italy in 2003, and transported to Egypt. He was imprisoned for four years, during which time he reports that he was raped, beaten, had his genitals electrified, and rendered deaf in one year. He was then released by an Egyption judge, who ruled that his arrest by Egyptian authorities was 'unfounded'.
Nasr was connected to an Egyptian Islamist group. When it was made illegal by the Egyptian authorities, he fled to Italy and was granted political asylum. Readers following Mr Snowden may make inferences as to the extent that political asylum would make him safe from kidnapping.
Nasr had previously been a CIA informer. http://www.historycommons.org/... History Commons claims "His relationship with the CIA during his time in Italy is unclear, but in one monitored call after 9/11 he appears to be dissuading another radical from attacking Jews and in another he tells an associate not to carry out a car bombing. [Chicago Tribune, 7/2/2005; Vidino, 2006, pp. 242] " but it is unclear how these people got their hands on Italian telephone intercepts.
There are claims (source above, long) that the CIA kidnapping interfered with Italian investigatiosn of Al Qaeda groups in Italy, and/or that the kidnapping was approved by an Italian secret police organization and/or their prime minister.
President Napolitano of Italy has recently pardoned the one military officer involved in the kidnapping http://www.presstv.ir/... .

One of the other CIA agents convicted by the Italians has talked. She says the Italians were allowed (?) to try the CIA people in order to protect Bush and his cronies.
