Florida lawmakers urge overhaul of 'Stand Your Ground' law
by Tom Brown, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Reuters -- Jul 19, 2013
Florida must either repeal its "Stand Your Ground" self-defense law or enact sweeping changes to avert more tragedies like the fatal shooting of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin, Democratic leaders of the state's legislature said on Thursday.

The Zimmerman verdict demonstrated the ramifications of the 2005 law, Florida Senate Democratic leader Chris Smith said.
"This bill actually encourages people to shoot their way out of situations and that's not how we live in a civilized society," Smith told a news conference. "It's a mentality that has permeated the state of Florida. It's a mentality of shoot first, and we should not have that in a civilized society."
Smith was joined by Florida House Democratic leader Perry Thurston. Both called for a special session of the state's Republican-dominated legislature to overhaul the law or consider doing away with it.

Imagine that, laws actually designed
to protect all members of the society. And not just the well-armed and
fearful few.
Florida Republicans take note: Even after the demonstrations wind down, we still have the power of our consumer dollars, and where and how we decide to spend them ...

Will Repealing 'Stand Your Ground' End Boycott Talk?
by Rick Stone, wgcu.org -- July 19, 2013
Activists around the nation are crying "boycott Florida!" after the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin case. Many, including Martin Luther King the Third and singer Stevie Wonder, say Florida products should be avoided until Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law -- central to the Zimmerman defense -- is repealed.
Broward State Senator Chris Smith, a Stand Your Ground opponent, would not support a call to boycott his own state. But he said Governor Scott and the Legislature could defuse the whole movement.
"When it comes to boycott, we can easily end talk of boycott and that's the legislature standing up and saying you know what? We’re going to hear the bills", Smith said. "We're going to do some action."

Let's see what else can us creative Americans boycott, that
says "Flor-i-duh!" --
to maybe somehow get their short-attention-span attention?
Orange Juice
Everglades
Miami Beach Tourism
Spring Break
Disney World / Sea World
Key West B&B's
If Florida cares about its bottom-line,
then the Florida Legislature and Governor-My-Way had better get their act together,
and fix or repeal this mockery of a civilized law.
Afterall if Americans wanted to vacation in the Wild Wild West,
well you know Gov-Rick, that's in a whole another direction. See ya later alligators!
