In 1755, the British governor of Novia Scotia began the deportation of the Acadians (descendants of the original French settlers). In 1947, The Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer, starring Cary Grant, Myrna Loy, and Shirley Temple, premiered at Radio City Music Hall.

In 1965, Bob Dylan enraged many of his fans (and made new ones) when he "went electric" at the Newport Folk Festival. ("Too commercial!" cried the early hipsters.)
