My morning is off to a great start thanks to PPP's newest Ohio Governor poll:
http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/...
PPP's newest Ohio Governor poll finds a toss up race, with Democratic challenger Ed FitzGerald holding a slight lead over John Kasich at 38/35.
The closeness of the race is more of a reflection on Kasich than FitzGerald. He has a negative approval rating with 42% of voters approving of him to 47% who disapprove. That represents a 10 point net decline from our last Ohio poll in November when he was at 45/40. FitzGerald meanwhile remains unknown to most voters in the state with 62% not having an opinion about him one way or the other- among those who do have one 20% see him positively and 18% in a negative light.
Kasich's winning 68% of the Republican vote right now compared to FitzGerald's 61% of Democrats. What's giving FitzGerald his slight overall lead is a 40/31 advantage with independents. Kasich's approval with them is particularly poor at 34/52. - PPP, 8/20/13
PPP also shows Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine (R) in a strong position for re-election with a 49/28 approval rating and he beats his Democratic opponent, David Pepper, 46/32. Failed U.S. Senate candidate and Treasurer Josh Mandel (R) has taken a hit in his approvals, 36/50, and trails his opponent Connie Pillich (D), 40/35. And for some more decent news, Secretary of State Jon Husted (R) has a 28/28 approval 44% of the voters unfamiliar with him. But even still, he only leads Nina Turner by one point, 37/36.
What makes me super happy about this poll is it shows we have a serious chance to unseat Kasich and that this is a race we should get heavily invested in. Ed Fitzgerald's (D. OH) campaign saw the PPP poll today and wasted no time reaching out to supporters to help fuel his campaign:
I wanted to tell you about a new poll out today. Ed is up by three points, and John Kasich's numbers are simply awful for a sitting governor seeking reelection.
That's according to a poll released today by PPP, one of the most reputable pollsters in the country.
We've had a great few weeks thanks to supporters like you, and we need to keep up the momentum. Will you contribute $13 today to help keep the pressure on Kasich?

This is the first public poll since Gov. Kasich signed his budget, which radically shifted the tax burden onto Ohio's middle-class families and seniors in order to pay for more tax cuts for the wealthy. It was a budget so extreme it defunded Planned Parenthood and set women's healthcare back 60 years.
It's also the first poll since the JobsOhio scandal broke.
So it's no a surprise that John Kasich's support has collapsed. Over the last couple months Ohioans have been reminded almost daily that this governor is out of touch and has the wrong priorities for Ohio families.
Contribute $13 right now to show Gov. Kasich that he doesn't share our priorities.

It only gets harder from here. But with your help, we can win this thing.
