Elmore Leonard, author of dozens of best sellers died to day aged 87.
Elmore who started his career in an adverising agency started writing books in the 1950's, primarily Westerns, the most famous of which was 3.10 to Yuma, which became a major Hollywood success starring Glenn Ford.
During the 50's and 60's, Leonard continued to write books, primarily Westerns and also worked as a script write for movies. As the hunger for Westerns dried up in the late 60's, Elmore continued to write, but moved into the seedy underbelly of modern day America, with titles such as Rum Punch, Glitz, 52 Card pickup.
During the eighties, his works sold well, but stayed pretty much out of the Best seller lists until Glitz in 1985. His subsequent books all became best sellers and many were turned into major Hollywood movies, including Get Shorty with John Travolta, Jackie Brown with Pam Grier (based on Rum Punch) and Out of Sight with George Cloony and Jennifer Lopez ( which spawned a TV series)
Today, the world lost one of it sbest storytellers. R.I.P.
