Smith and Wesson, one of the worlds biggest supporters of the NRA, has put out a product recall...because the gun they make is not safe.
Due to bad production or design the safety system that is to prevent the gun from going off if you drop it, can cause the gun to go off when dropped or when being moved. This is system is damaged by doing the unusual thing of pulling the trigger. Once you have pulled the trigger, you may have damaged the safety so S&W gives the helpful advice "STOP USING YOUR PISTOL IMMEDIATELY"

What I found interesting is that S&W has started to learn to market. Note the name of the series of automatic handguns - The M&P SHIELD. Because Shield is a safe feeling word. This plays on the marketing to women, one of the fastest growing segments of gun owners, making them feel that having an automatic handgun will "shield" them from the evil bad guys.
(yes, I say Automatic, because that is what they are. The ammo is listed as ACP - Automatic Centerfire Pistol. Many a 1911 is stamped ".45 Automatic". So if you're going to whine about terminology, don't bother.)
