Polls are about to close in both Colorado, where voters are deciding whether to recall Democratic state Sens. John Morse (SD-11) and Angela Giron (SD-03), and in New York City, where voters are choosing nominees in several races, including two high-profile Democratic primaries. For mayor, the front-runner, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, is hoping to reach 40 percent and avoid a runoff with either former city Comptroller Bill Thompson and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. And for comptroller, ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer is attempting a comeback against Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer.
We'll be liveblogging all of these races and more below. For a more in-depth preview of all of these contests and several others, click here.
Results: CO (AP) | NY (AP) | NY (WNYC)
6:03 PM PT (Darth Jeff): While we wait, some results from some mayoral primaries in cities where the polls have already closed. In Charlotte’s Democratic primary, Mayor Pro Tem Patrick Cannon leads district Councilor James Mitchell 55-40, with roughly half of precincts reporting. In the city’s Republican primary, former Councilor Edwin Peacock is easily dispatching his token opponent. Over in Cincinnati, Democratic councilors John Cranley and Roxanne Qualls will secure spots in the November general without much trouble. Cranley leads the all-candidate primary 59-34, with 25 percent in. In Toledo very few votes are in, but Democratic county Auditor and independent councilor Michael Collins currently have the top two spots. Incumbent Independent Mayor Michael Bell is 159 votes behind Collins.
6:04 PM PT: We also have NYC exit polls from the New York Times. For mayor, it's de Blasio 43, Thompson 23. For comptroller, Stringer 53, Spitzer 47.
6:10 PM PT: As is often the case with exit polls, they change as more updates are included. So far, though, the shifts are minimal. The NYT says de Blasio 43, Thompson 25, Quinn 18.
6:12 PM PT (Darth Jeff): With 138 out of 166 precincts reporting in Charlotte this one looks over. Cannon leads Mitchell 55-40.
6:16 PM PT: Here's the link to the NYT's full exit polls for both the mayoral and comptroller races.
6:18 PM PT: The first actual votes are showing up in NYC now - just a trickle so far.
6:20 PM PT: No numbers yet in Colorado, but the Morse results should appear here and Giron here.
6:32 PM PT: And now we do have numbers from the Morse recall, which is succeeding 52-48. It's not clear from this link what percentage of precincts have reported, but about 13,000 votes have been tallied so far.
6:34 PM PT (Darth Jeff): Only 7 percent of Toledo precincts are reporting, but we finally have an update. Lopez remains in first, with Collins remaining in second. Incumbent Bell is 201 votes behind Collins for the critical second place spot that would take him to the general. Democratic Councilor Joe McNamara is in fourth, 253 votes away from the second place spot.
6:37 PM PT (Darth Jeff): And that's all she wrote in Charlotte as Mitchell concedes. Cannon will likely face a competitive race with Peacock in November but should start out the favorite.
6:42 PM PT (Darth Jeff): No surprises in Buffalo. With 18 percent reporting, incumbent Byron Brown is crushing his Democratic primary opponent Bernie Tolbert 63-37 percent. Brown should face little trouble in November.
6:46 PM PT: Reporter Eli Stokols says there are about 4-5K more votes to be counted in the Morse race. If it's 4,500 (to take the middle figure), Morse would need over 53% of them to win.
6:51 PM PT:
Of all the races, public advocate seems most likely to require runoff. For context, public advocate budget: $2.3m. Cost of runoff: $20m.

6:53 PM PT (Darth Jeff): We're seeing a change in Toledo. With 16 percent reporting, Collins leads with 27.42 percent and Bell narrowly takes second with 24.09. Lopez is in third with 23.93 percent, and McNamara continues to be in fourth with 20.80. Looks like anything could happen here at this point.
6:55 PM PT: Actually, we have to issue a correction. If there are 4,500 ballots left, Morse would need to prevail almost 57-43 among that remaining pile to eke out a win.
6:58 PM PT: The liveblog continues here.
