Those following syria news relatively closely remember the visit by McCain in Syria to meet the moderate FSA. He met with them in the town of Azaz north of Aleppo close to the Turkish border. Reuters (in Arabic) and AlJazeera are reporting today that fighters from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) have overrun Azaz killing 5 FSA members and holding over 100 hostage.
This is a huge development and outlines the big mess that Syria is now. If the 'moderate' FSA cannot hold their ground close to the Turkish border, what would happen to the planned arm supply to the rebels? Will Turkey intervene militarily to help the FSA? Will the US continue to supply the rebels in the North? Wonder what would senator McCain have to say about this.
Unfortunately, this is what civil war is like. Hope it does not last too long for the sake of the Syrian people.
