So Governor Cuomo ( Apparently jockeying for lead spot 2016) is about to get full co-operation from the NY State Assembly to pass a slew of new gun regulations. NY will be the first state to respond with tougher gun regulations in response to the horrific Sandy Hook incident that occurred exactly one month ago today. According to The NY Daily News “The legislative package would expand the state’s existing ban on assault weapons, limit the size of ammunition magazines, place further restrictions on gun sales, and create safeguards to make it more difficult for the mentally ill to own firearms.

Other than making it “more difficult”, note not impossible, for the mentally ill to own firearms do these new laws mean anything. The point being, without similar Federal laws NY state or any state for that matter can pass whatever they want and it won`t mean a hill of beans. I am not sure of the exact percentage but an astounding number of gun related crimes are committed with guns that the NYPD can trace back to Virginia.
On the east coast VA is the unregulated gun casbah. Chicago suffers a similar plague from guns coming from outside IL. It is a joke for a state here and a state there to pass
tough gun laws when these will be easily circumvented by the sick, the criminal and the Patriot by going to the next state over and buying whatever they want at a Saturday gun show. I feel a lot of state politicians are merely grandstanding and it is up to us to implore our local congress critters to pass Federal laws that maybe will curtail the madness. I am not advocating for the abolition or evan an amendment to the “sacred”
2nd. But is it too much to ask for back round checks, for convicted criminals to loose the right to a firearms, for limiting the size of gun magazines? Seeing how the 2nd amendment is all about the right to bear arms and maintaining a well regulated militia....
maybe only vets and National Guardsman should be allowed to own guns. But I digress.
So one more diary to add to the long list of gun diaries. Have at it. Peace.
