On Saturday, the Houston Area Kossacks held our third meet-up. I guess you could say it was an inaugural celebration, even though it wasn't planned for Saturday because of the inauguration. We met at Cafe Adobe, an awesome Mexican restaurant in River Oaks that, in this diarist's humble opinion, has the best salsa and margaritas in town. We had a very good turnout, with 19 people showing up in all. We also saw a few new faces, which I consider the mark of a successful meet-up--we're not only maintaining our group, but increasing its size as well. All in all, many chips were consumed, many margaritas were had, and great conversation was shared. I think I speak for all in attendance when I say the meet-up was a success.
My boyfriend, who is a photographer, was also in attendance, and it is thanks to him that the photos below the fold are so beautiful. I may be an event organizer, but I am not a photographer by any stretch, so it was wonderful to have a pro do the picture-taking with something other than an iPhone. So a huge thanks to the BF for agreeing to bring his camera, take the photos, and then edit them all to make them even prettier.
But before we get to those pics, I'll get my crappy iPhone photos out of the way. Here's my awful attempt to get the whole table in a shot. It's a terrible picture, but it kind of gives you an idea of the scope of the meet-up.
And here's a photo of the photographer himself (left) and me.
Before we get to the rest of the Kossacks, I have to say that this (seafood enchiladas):
and this (Strawberry Rita on the rocks):
were a winning combo. Cafe Adobe was most definitely a good choice for lunch, and I'd recommend it highly to anybody wanting good Tex-Mex in Houston. And the waitstaff also did a great job serving such a large crowd of people.
And now, on to the rest of the pics!
We saw a number of familiar faces at this meet-up. Such as cosette, who didn't want me coming near her with a camera and was quite relieved to see somebody else taking the pictures (LOL). I think this pic turned out great.
And here she is again, standing with Crabby Abbey.
Crabby Abbey also brought a friend, who is not a Kossack, named Charlotte. Here she is sitting with Mosquito Pilot, who hadn't been able to attend our meet-ups in the past. We're glad he could make it this time around!
Here's Crabby Abbey again, sitting with another new face, krwheaton. With me standing behind them.
Counselor730 was yet another new face at the meet-up. Here he is sitting with htowngenie.
The rest are familiar faces. Such as the delightful Libby Shaw and her husband.
And the equally-delightful suesue and her husband.
While we're on a couples kick, here are two more.
PDiddie and his wife:
And Texdude50 (right) and his partner icelus (with me in the back):
Here's Delilah, looking as lovely as usual.
And she got a pic with my BF, too. Warning: Chrislove operating the camera!
Finally, here I am standing with (from left to right) Delilah, suesue, Mr. suesue, PDidde, and Mrs. PDiddie.
Oh, wait...there's one more. I like this picture suesue took of the BF and me.
Also in attendance (but not pictured) was the fabulous nomandates, whose hair didn't even make an appearance this time!
In case you couldn't tell from the pics, a great time was had by all. I'm very much looking forward to our next meet-up! And, of course, I'm very excitedly awaiting the Lone Star Spring Meet-Up in Austin on March 2!
If you're in the Houston area and not already a member of Houston Area Kossacks, either comment here or send me a Kosmail to join. Be sure to include an e-mail address, since we do all of our communicating via e-mail. Hopefully we'll see a few more new faces at our next meet-up!
