Something that bothers me in current American linguistic usage is a misuse of the Yiddish word schmuck.
When you see it applied to someone, like Joe Barton (R-TX) or Louis Gohmert (R-Also TX), it is not appropriate, because a schmuck has a head.
It is a Yiddish word for "Penis", and at least in Yekke (German Jewish) circles, is distinguished from the word "Putz" in that Putz is a more generic penis, while a schmuck specifically applies to an uncircumcised penis.
Similarly, you have the word "Dork", which refers to the male member, which cartoonist Gary Larson used in a cartoon which was rejected by his editor for just this reason.
The edited cartoon is below:
"Well, of course I did it in cold blood,
you idiot! ... I'm a reptile!"
FWIW, I do think that "Dork" is funnier than "idiot".
In either case, I would note that there are an astonishing number of Republicans who lack the brain power, many from Texas, for whom the characterization of "Schmuck" is inappropriate.
That is all.
