We have to get rid of Obamacare. Democrats wouldn't accept compromise so the government shutdown. The Democratic Party is to blame and damn it, I like the sound of campaign contribution cash flow coming!
Darrell Issa's no good, terrible weekend has now turned into a rotten week so far.
As reported in my previous diary, http://www.dailykos.com/... Issa became irritated and snapped at a reporter for asking him a hardball question with no partisan motivations.
This time, Issa is being interviewed by CNN 'New Day' co-host Chris Cuomo and it doesn't seem the Issa Man has calmed down since last weekend.
Enjoy this tense exchange between Cuomo and Issa:

“All we’re trying to do is keep the American people from being forced in to buying into exchanges before they are even up and running or we know how much they cost,” Issa told CNN’s “New Day.” “So, is it small? Yes, it’s small. Is it worth a shutdown? Of course not.”
Check this whopper of a statement from Issa:
Issa: "Well, you can't accuse me of beating my wife and then turning around me and tell me, isn't that true?"
Seriously, is it possible for Congressman Issa to be less of a dumbass here? He said, "All we’re trying to do is keep the American people from being forced in to buying into exchanges before they are even up and running or we know how much they cost" and then he also mentions "Is it worth a shutdown? Of course not" when he and many other Republican colleagues advocated for a shutdown!
WTF? Issa, the whole shutdown was because of you and your colleagues asking Obamacare to be repealed, not because of ANYTHING else. If you say delaying or preventing Obamacare is not worth the government shutting down, then why did you and your GOP colleagues do it?
Doesn't seem Issa would be willing to answer my question. However, as expected, most of what Issa seems to be talking about is Obamacare, not discussing how to get the government back in business, dealing with the debt and other pressing problems.
In fact, just today, Issa released a press statement regarding the Affordable Health Care Act, not the government shutdown:
Statement on Problems Surrounding Launch of ObamaCare Exchanges
http://issa.house.gov/...
October 1, 2013
WASHINGTON- House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., issued the following statement on the problems surrounding today’s launch of Obamacare’s health exchanges:
“Today, across the country, Americans are attempting to purchase health insurance on Obamacare exchanges and are being met with crashing websites, missing price information, confusing forms and in some cases, exchanges that had to delay their start date because they aren’t ready yet. These ‘glitches,’ which the President is trying to brush off, reveal how totally unprepared the government is for this launch even with three and a half years to prepare. This is nothing, however, compared to the potentially irreversible damage the law threatens in the long term: skyrocketing premiums for families, more out-of-pocket costs, less choice and fewer plans and an unprecedented burden placed on small businesses and job creators. The American people deserve better than this trainwreck of a law, whose own champions have resorted to tamping down expectations while refusing to consider alternatives.
“Now that Obamacare’s implementation has begun, more and more of the American people will turn to Congress looking for practical health solutions the bill does not deliver. The President and his allies in Congress owe it to the American people to stop blaming ‘glitches’ for the real problems with the current law, and join us to provide alternatives that work.”
Last month, the Committee released a staff report which found the Navigators and Assisters programs designed to enroll Americans in Obamacare pose huge risks for fraud, identity theft and lack proper safeguard to protect sensitive, personal information. You can read the full report here.
In addition, most of the Tweets from Darrell Issa's Twitter account seem to be focused on the issues that prove him to be a partisan and very little on dealing with the government shutdown situation:
And then of course earlier, before Issa got interviewed on CNN, he Tweeted the following that says it was the Democratic Party that shutdown the government:
Really Issa, really?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Honestly, Issa really should be watching it because his Congressional District has a PVI rating of R+4 and in San Diego County (which encompasses most of Issa's 49th Congressional District of California) nowadays has more registered Democrats than Republicans and the number is growing.
On May 24, 2010, the CA Secretary of State office released this report showing the SD Voter Registration numbers where the Democratic Party had an edge over the GOP by 5,513 votes:
http://www.sos.ca.gov/...
Democrats: 514,536
Republicans: 509,023
Decline-to-State/Independents: 327,906
Since that period, the number of registered voters in SD County has increased and Democratic Party continues to lead the GOP and by 22,460 votes this time around as of February 10, 2013:
http://www.sos.ca.gov/...
Democrats: 556,173
Republicans: 533,713
Now here's the voter registration as of February 2013 by the actual CA-49 Congressional District, which combines parts of San Diego and Orange County. Note the number of Decline-to-State/Independents:
http://www.sos.ca.gov/...
Orange County:
Democrats: 22,239
Republicans: 44,833
Decline-to-State/Independent: 19,077
San Diego County:
Democrats: 84,282
Republicans: 107,221
Decline-to-State/Independent: 70,938
Total:
Democrats: 106,521
Republicans: 152,054
Decline-to-State/Independent: 90,015
So yes, the GOP does lead the Democratic Party by 45,533 votes but there are also lots of Independents so definitely possible to reach out to them.
In addition, here are the 2012 election results in CA-49 that show Darrell Issa did defeat then-Democratic challenger Jerry Tetalman by 16.4% (58.2% to 41.8%) in terms of the votes but defeated Tetalman in San Diego County by just 10.8% as opposed to defeating Tetalman in Orange County by 32.2%.

County Votes Percent Precincts Reporting
Orange 24,127 33.9% 122 of 122
San Diego 90,766 44.6% 373 of 373
So bottom line: Start doing voter registration drives in CA-49!
