I am still muddling through the maze that it is healthcare.gov. Like many others, I had to call in and get assistance over the phone to complete an application. There was something new about this particular process that is worth remarking upon.
I have what can fairly be described as a typically feminine voice, and a typically feminine name. No one has ever mistaken me for a male. Yet you really never know. And that is why I appreciate that the consultant asked instead of assuming.
Even more importantly I was asked the "gender" of my "spouse." I think it was the first time I have ever been asked that question on an application. I look forward to the day, when the gender of a spouse will never be assumed.
This is a little bit of the change we can all believe in.
