And
not because he's Canadian.
So maybe the shutdown over trying to undo Obamacare wasn't such a great idea, like some of your Republican colleagues tried to warn you.
Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-Texas) favorability rating has collapsed as the public has become more familiar with him, according to a Gallup survey released on Thursday.
The survey found that 26 percent have a favorable view of the Texas Republican, against 36 percent unfavorable. That makes 62 percent of the public that has an opinion on Cruz, up from 42 percent in June, when 24 percent had a favorable view of him against 18 percent unfavorable – a 16-point negative swing.
The Gallup poll comes on the heels of a Brigham Young University survey that found Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) losing favor in his home state. Lee has seen a 20-point negative swing in his favorability rating from the same poll in June, and now sits at 40 percent favorable and 51 percent unfavorable in Utah.
Lee and Cruz led the charge in provoking a government shutdown over the funding of ObamaCare. Both pushed House Republicans to withhold all government appropriations in an attempt to defund the president’s signature legislative achievement.
Some Republicans have since openly chastised the two freshman Tea Party favorites, questioning their strategy and arguing it was unrealistic to believe the Senate or White House would agree to defunding the healthcare law. Some in the GOP were also worried that their party would be blamed for the shutdown; a fear that has borne out in the polls.
This aligns perfectly with the loss of favor the Tea Party is suffering not only from normal people, but the actual ruling class in the Republican Party who is looking for a way to
rid themselves of these parasites that they've attached to themselves.
So maybe Americans aren't as dumb as they are sometimes made out to be if this spotlight on Cruz showed him for what he is and maybe it won't be Cruz for Prez in 2016 after all. And hopefully he will stop running things in the House soon as well and some actual business can get done in the government.
