There's a very good reason to sell Texas.
It would solve our debt ceiling problem instantly and for a good while. The GDP of Texas is $1.7 Trillion and growing constantly. Surely the Koch brothers can see a good investment opportunity here? $1.7 Trillion buys us about three years before Congress would fall to bickering again about the debt; a rest the rest of us well deserve.
But there's more!
- It would virtually insure a victory for the Democratic Presidential nominee in 2016.
- It would make it a lot more likely that Democrats would regain control of the House in 2014 (needing only to win nine or ten more seats instead of eighteen).
- Ted Cruz would become the first President of New Texas, and he would then proceed to shut the entire Texas government down. Permanently. This would provide endless amusement.
You might think "Wait! Do we have a right to sell Texas?" Of course we do. We bought Alaska, didn't we? If we can buy Alaska and be forced to take Sarah Palin in the bargain, we can sell Texas, send Ted Cruz back from DC to Austin and in return get Wendy Davis. It's a no brainer.
You might think "Can the sale get through Congress and be signed by Obama?" Sure!
Look, the Republican House, keen on privatizing everything from Social Security to the Post Office, would jump at the chance to privatize AN ENTIRE STATE. The Senate can't wait to give its final farewells to Ted Cruz. And the President? Who's kidding whom? The biggest state to thumb its electoral college nose at him twice? He signs the necessary papers in a heartbeat.
There ya go. Texas. The Lonestar Country. I like it.
